T'aegukki

T'aegukki is the national flag of Korea.
The design is complex with philosophical significance.
The white background symbolizes peace.
The red and blue circle in the center called "T'aeguk' symbolizes the universe
and each divided part makes a perfect balance between the negative and positive power.
According to oriental philosophy, the universe consists of two powers, positive and negative.
These are called 'Eum' and 'Yang' in Korean.
'Eum'(blue) negative power, stands for the earth, the moon, the night, water, woman and etc.
'Yang'(red), positive power means the sky, the sun, the day, fire, man and so on.
The Korean national flag represents the Eum-Yang theory.
There are the black bars at the corner of the flag.
The bars in the upper left coner stand for heaven, those in the lower left earth, those in the upper right water and those in the lower right fire.
