The Roots Look Like the Human Body

Insam is a world famous Korean herb which is used as a medicine.
It is called ginseng in English.'' 'In' means human and 'sam' stands for root.
It is called this because it looks like a human body.
Insam is produced in China,.Japan, America, and Korea,
but Korean insam is the best because it is produced in perfect soil conditions.
Korean insam was known to China even in ancient times.
One Chinese emperor sent his messenger to Korea to get insam to keeping him young.

Research says that Korean insam has a high percentage of saponin which makes cells strong so the body can resist disease.
Long ago, common people couldn't imagine eating insam.
Especially mountain insam was very hard to find, so it was very expensive.

There are special persons called Simmani who search for mountain insam.
They isolate themselves and do not even have sexual contact before searching for mountain insam.
If they find it, they can make a lot of money.
Two- or three-hundred-year-old insam costs over ten million won per root.
Today's insam has been cultivated from the seeds of mountain insam.
Insam dislikes sunshine, so it is protected by a black roof made of cloth while if grows for 6 years.
After insam is harvested, the field cannot be used for a long time because the roots are very strong and they absorb all the nutrients from the soil.
That is why Korean insam is expensive and has a strong effect on disease.
Farmers need government permission to grow insam, and the price is regulated by a government-run company.

Because Korean insam is well-known in other Asian countries, cheap Chinese ginseng is packed into Korean insam boxes and sold widely.
According to some newspapers, 80% of insam which is sold in Hong Kong and Thailand as Korean insam is not real Korean insam.
